Another great CSTD annual conference

Wow, it's Friday already and I'm still catching my breath.

The annual CSTD conference and trade show in Toronto was another success.

What a great time we had!

Thanks to all who took the time to stop by our booth to say hi - it was a pleasure meeting you.

If you didn't attend this year's conference, well, we wish you were there.

Here's a glimpse of what you missed.

You missed a great session called Senses and Simulation, which offered a truly fascinating look at a simulation-based training program being carried out at Canadian Forces Base Gagetown in New Brunswick.

By focusing on sensory stimulation, the training program has taken classroom training to a very powerful level, increasing the realism of the training and providing a very strong context-based based experience. And the innovative use of video creates the opportunity for very focused feedback and deeper reflection.

It was impressive - I came away devising ways to introduce greater sensory stimulation into our own courses. I'm sure we'll be introducing the new Smell-O-Vision component in the LCMS soon...

You also missed a very engaging session on e-portfolios led by Dr. Kathryn Chang Barker. Dr. Barker's passion for ePortfolios and her belief that they can change the world made for a very invigorating session.

Barker is also Chair of LIfIA : Learning Innovations Forum d'Innovation d'Apprentissage (Foro de las Innovaciones que Aprende).

The list could easily go on and on, but these were two of the session highlights for me. Once again I came away feeling that the CSTD conference puts together the best selection of sessions I've seen almost anywhere.

Thanks to all the organizers and volunteers - well done and we'll see you next year!
